We have an education consultant on our team who has been a head teacher in the Nottinghamshire area for 10 years and has been in the Education Sector in the East Midlands for nearer 30 years. He has been in school leadership in China more recently so he has some cultural understanding of Hong Kong too, having lived in Shenzhen for 2 years and visited Hong Kong many times for professional enhancement courses and weekends of fun.

​Many of the best schools are oversubscribed and we can usually help with the appeals process in order to gain a place at your chosen school even if it is oversubscribed.

School ages
Children must get an education between the school term after their 5th birthday and the last Friday in June in the school year they turn 16. Although most children start school in the September after turning four, they are not obliged to be in education until they are of Compulsory School Age. This is a set point in the year following their fifth birthday. Children who turn five between 1 September and 31 December reach Compulsory School Age on 31 December.
 
You can leave school on the last Friday in June if you will be 16 by the end of the summer holidays. However, although you do not have to go to school, you will have to remain in education, employment or training until the age of 18.
 
Between 16 and 18 you will be able to choose from:
  • full-time education (for example at a school or college)
  • an apprenticeship or traineeship
  • part-time education or training combined with one of the following:
  • employment or self-employment for 20 hours or more a week OR
  • volunteering for 20 hours or more a week.
 
Higher education
 
It is traditional for students to matriculate at the age of 17 or 18, though exceptions can be made on an individual, case-by-case basis. A “rich college experience" is something everyone determines for themselves. It also changes over time for the individual. Once an individual has finished compulsory aged education they can attend higher education at any age as an adult. Every year, thousands of mature students go to university or college. It's a great chance to develop new skills and career options at any age.
