Fee Paying Schools
Choosing to send your child to a fee paying school is a decision which is available to all parents in the UK. There are over 2500 fee paying schools in the UK. Approximately 7% of children in the UK attend these schools. This increases at the age of 16 when approximately 18% of UK children attend these schools due to a mixture of fewer children in education and possibly more choosing Fee paying schools in order to try for raised grades to get into the Redbrick Universities or Oxbridge which require the highest grades.
The main reasons that parents consider sending their child to a fee paying school is because they believe some or all of the following:
Although it is a parent’s right to choose the education that they feel best matches their child it is important to not make assumptions about fee paying schools. They are not always the best fit for a child and there are many state schools which provide many of the above if not all.
As a British Head Teacher I advise parents to consider the following three factors in determining the best school for their child:
If the child/student is exposed to a positive environment, positive relationships and positive opportunity at the same time, their holistic development will be maximised.
Some parents supplement their child’s school provision with opportunities and experiences in other environments (e.g Sports clubs, groups, Music or Drama related organisations). Arguably the most important factor will be the relationships your child has at school and beyond school and how this influences, inspires and impacts them over time.
The best school for your child will be the one that does these three things well.
