Victims of Our Own Success: Why Apartment Viewings Can Be Difficult!

15/6/2016

We LOVE making our guests feel welcome and providing them with a bespoke personal service, that's what Nook & Cranny is all about. And we'll always do our best to help – whether that’s helping guests find a school, introducing them to other families staying nearby, telling them about the great stuff going on in the area, or giving them some insider tips for relocating to the UK.

The truth about viewings!
Lots of our visitors ask to view the apartment they might stay in before they book it, I would do too if I was moving to a new area and potentially spending a few months or more somewhere. We always do our absolute best to show someone their possible new lodgings, we book viewings in 7 days a week not quite 24 hours a day (but at least 12!). So it really pains me that a lot of the time we can’t arrange viewings and we HATE disappointing people but there's a really good reason for it: we’re nearly always full!

Even now we've got 21 apartments they are nearly all booked all of the time! And just like I wouldn’t want someone looking round my house we don’t arrange viewings in apartments with guests staying. We’re really happy to show you other similar apartments and we’re happy to meet up and show you the area (because we know you’ll fall in love with it!), we just can’t guarantee that we can show you the flat that you’ll be staying in.

But do not worry. All of our apartments have the same high standard of décor, the same gorgeous furnishings, and they've all been kitted out with the same luxury mod cons. If you're thinking of staying with us and we can't set up a viewing (sorry!), hopefully these videos will give you a pretty good idea of what your apartment is like.

This is a video of one of our lovely one-bed flats:
Here's one of our gorgeous two-bedroom properties:
And lastly, this is our luxurious wheelchair accessible apartment:
All of our apartments are light and airy, they're freshly (and tastefully!) decorated, they're all fitted and kitted to a really high standard and have:
  • a Nespresso machine
  • a washing machine/dryer
  • a fridge & freezer
  • a dishwasher
  • private parking for 1 or 2 cars
  • unlimited fast, free WiFi
They're all close to the centre of West Bridgford with its park, the river, pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops, and excellent transport links to Nottingham City Centre, East Midlands Airport, Leicester, Derby and Loughborough.

Now you know why we may not be able to show you your apartment before you book it, we hope you can understand! We're always happy to answer any questions about your booking or West Bridgford so get in touch any time, and here are lots more snaps of our flats (click on a name to see more pics) and the area – enjoy!

Our Wheelchair Accessible Flats: Interview with Actor Amy Trigg

22/4/2016

As you might have noticed (!) I'm a huge fan of Nottingham Playhouse, over the years I've built up a great relationship with the theatre and I go to just about every play they put on so I'm always thrilled when actors stay in our apartments.

Amy got in touch with me a few months ago and subsequently stayed at Cricket Heaven – one of our wheelchair accessible properties – for 6 weeks.
She was kind enough to answer my questions about her stay...

What brought you to Nottingham?

I was cast as Laura in The Glass Menagerie at Nottingham Playhouse. I was in Nottingham for six weeks.
Amy Trigg The Glass Menagerie
Why did you choose to stay in a Nook & Cranny apartment?
I was looking for accessible accommodation in Nottingham near the Nottingham Playhouse, which was proving slightly impossible! I contacted Katie at Nook and Cranny and she pointed me towards Cricket Heaven in West Bridgford, which was perfect for me. It was a home away from home. I had my car with me and found getting into Nottingham centre very easy. Public transport was also accessible.

What was your favourite haunt/thing to do in West Bridgford?

I loved visiting the park which was always bustling with dog walkers and families. Escabeche does amazing tapas and the staff are super friendly - they also have live music on Sundays which my fellow cast members and I really enjoyed. I would often visit Carluccios and Côte for lunch or just a hot drink. The park and shops were a really short walk from the apartment so exploring was very easy. The staff in the library were also really helpful.

Was the flat accessible?
For me, yes. I am a manual wheelchair user and had no problems. I transfer quite easily on my own so I used my own shower seat which fitted into the en suite shower perfectly. There was a slight step into the shower but I found this manageable. There's also a bath so plenty of options! There are low and high cupboards in the kitchen but I just had everything moved down so it was reachable.

There are some high windows which some wheelchair users might not be able to reach but there are plenty of reachable windows to open which made the apartment feel really light. Most of the apartment has carpet but I found it really easy to wheel around. The area around the flat is also accessible - lots of drop down curbs and not too hilly.

Did it have any other useful adaptations/equipment?
It didn't have any adaptations but I didn't really need anything extra for my needs.

Would you stay in a Nook & Cranny apartment again?
Absolutely. I really enjoyed my stay in West Bridgford and hope to be back in the near future. I wouldn't hesitate about staying at Cricket Heaven again and would recommend Nook and Cranny apartments to others visiting the area.

What are you starring in next and where can we see you in action?
My next project is with the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, Essex. I've been accepted onto the Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme so I'll be working at the Mercury theatre as an assistant director for a few months which is very exciting.

MASSIVE thanks to Amy for being so helpful and really good luck in your new role as an assistant director, I'm sure you'll smash it! We hope to see you again soon.

As well as Cricket Heaven we have two other wheelchair-friendly apartments: Sunrise Hideaway and Sunset Hideaway, both at the Bowling Green on Melton Road. If you'd like to find out any more about staying at any of our properties please get in touch.
