The Only Going Out Guide You'll Need This Summer

26/5/2017

What's on in Nottingham this summer? Only about 300 exciting events that's what! There is so much happening we've had to split it into different categories to have any way of getting our heads round it.
Here goes...

Lastminute.com Events this Bank Holiday
If you want to get out and enjoy the glorious weather this weekend but you've left it 'til the last minute to decide what to do, how about:

Great Food & Drink Festival AT Nottingham Castle ON 27th – 29th May
A celebration of wonderful food and drink, with loads to try and buy, chef demos (anyone heard of Antonio Carluccio?!), music, real ale and baking classes – what's not to love! Here's more info

May Bank Holiday Craft & Gift Market AT Newstead Abbey ON 28th & 29th May
Treat yourself or get your pressie shopping in early at this market with all sorts of wonderful gifts, including crafty textiles and jewellery, and take a sneaky peak at the house and gardens while you're there too. All the details

Glastonbudget AT Wymeswold, Leicestershire ON 26th – 28th May
Turn up, tune in and dance your heart out (if it's not too hot) at Leicestershire's most exciting music festival. There'll be tribute bands galore so you can hear your favourite tunes, plus lots of new material from up and coming bands. Tickets & info

Celebrating Food & Drink
Possibly two of our favourite things and if we get to enjoy them in a  lovely place with lovely weather, all the better. If you share our passion, you might like:

Taste of Rushcliffe Food Festival AT Central Avenue, West Bridgford ON 22nd July
This brilliant festival – now in its 3rd year – is back, featuring fabulous growers, makers, cooks and businesses from the local area. And it's right on our doorstep so go along and enjoy! Get more info

Great Food & Drink Festival The Big Bake AT Newstead Abbey ON 26th – 28th August
Another Great Food & Drink Festival, this time at Newstead Abbey, with loads of food and drink from our region, plus a few famous faces, including Candice Brown (Winner of The Great British Bake Off in 2016) talking cake baking. More details

A Spot of Culture
If the arts are more your thing, there's plenty to enjoy this summer in and around Nottingham. Here's a quick look at some of the highlights:

Wheee! International Children's Theatre & Dance Festival AT Lakeside ON 29th May – 4th June
Featuring theatre shows, puppets and a BRAND NEW Luminarium to keep the kids entertained during half-term, plus a free family weekend. For more info

Outdoor Theatre AT Newstead Abbey, Wollaton Hall & Nottingham Castle ON various dates in July
There's a whole feast of outdoor plays to go and see at three different locations for every age group, ranging from A Midsummer Night's Dream to Peter Pan to Pride and Prejudice. You can find out more by following these links:
Outdoor theatre at Newstead Abbey | Wollaton Hall | Nottingham Castle

Summer Nights AT Clumber Park ON 4th & 5th August
Watching a movie + being outdoors = the perfect way to spend an evening. There are two outdoor screenings at Clumber Park – Dirty Dancing (surely one of the best movies ever made) and rather appropriately – Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves. Buy tickets

The BIG One: Sport
Sport is huge around here just in case you hadn't noticed and there's plenty to choose from whether you're a keen participant or prefer to watch from the sidelines. Here's a taste of what's on – please go to the relevant website to find out more:

Aegon Open Nottingham AT Nottingham Tennis Centre ON 10th – 18th June
You can still get tickets to Nottingham's most exciting tennis event so why not support British no.1 and World no.7 Johanna Konta on court this summer? Info and tickets

City Ride Cycling Event AT River Trent & Victoria Embankment ON 18th June
As part of an initiative to get 2 million people cycling by 2020, Nottingham is hosting a City Ride event. The nearby streets will be closed to let cyclists take over and everyone is welcome. Register here

Great Notts Bike Ride AT Nottingham & local area ON 25th June

This one is for more serious cyclists and is a brilliant way to raise money for your local charity. There are 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 mile routes. But the 75 and 125 ones have sold out already so get signed up soon! More info

City of Nottingham Triathlon & British Triathlon Relay Cup AT Victoria Embankment ON 2nd September
Two very exciting events you can watch just a stone's throw away from the centre of West Bridgford. The Brownlee brothers are going to be competing for the cup – sounds like a must-watch to us – or if you're super-fit you can still enter. Find out more

UK Corporate Games AT Various locations in & around Nottingham ON 6th – 9th July
This is another must-see we're really excited about: the UK Corporate Games, where individuals and teams take part on behalf of their companies. You can catch pretty much any sport, there's golf, netball, cycling, dragon boating, badminton, basketball, rugby, hockey... And all this too
UK Corporate Games
British Junior Rowing Championships AT National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont ON 14th – 16th July
This promises to be great day out with the best of our young rowers competing over three days in July. If you fancy going along to support them click here for more details.

While we're talking about the water sports centre at Holme Pierrepont it seems wrong not mention all the things you can get involved in there. There's paddle-boarding, a sky trail, white water rafting, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, open water swimming...
perfect for these long, hot summer days.

No sporting events run-down for Nottingham would be complete without mentioning...

Cricket AT Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, West Bridgford ON many beautiful hot summer days
Whether you prefer the thrill of a 20:20 or to spend the whole day enjoying your cricket, there are numerous matches at our local cricket ground (walkable from our apartments, which is one reason we've got several professional cricketers staying with us for the third year running while they're playing here). Fixtures list

Going Out: Music & Parties!
Castle Rock's 40th Yard Party & Beer Festival AT Queensbridge Road ON 31st May – 3rd June

Our favourite brewery turns 40 this year and to celebrate they're going to party even harder than usual for a few days. If you want to celebrate with them and partake of some local ale – there'll be about 50 to choose from – here are the details.

Proms in the Park AT Bridgford Park ON 24th June
As part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations, Rushcliffe Borough Council is putting on an open air concert all day and evening in our lovely local park. Take a picnic and enjoy! More info

Splendour AT Wollaton Hall ON 22nd July
Splendour is our BIG one-day local festival with music to suit all tastes and ages... the Kaiser Chiefs are headlining, plus Busted will be there, as well as Tony Hadley, Billy Ocean and the Buzzcocks (for those of us who are old enough to remember them!). Details & tickets

Gloworm Festival AT Clumber Park ON 19th – 20th August

This is our family friendly festival where you and your little ones can enjoy music from the likes of S Club Party, as well as fairground rides, entertainers and dancers, and you can even take them to meet Postman Pat (yes, the real one) and The Chuckle Brothers. Find out more
Nottingham beach
Last but not least is a shoutout for Nottingham's famous – and just a little bit quirky – beach. Yes, we may be right in the middle of the country, yes, we may be miles from the sea and, yes, we still like to go to the beach. So from 22nd July right through the summer until 28th August the market square is taken over by sand, deckchairs, a huge paddling pool, food and drink stalls, and lots of fun rides.

Have a brilliant summer!

From the Nook & Cranny team.
